Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. An east or west-facing window works perfectly - half-day sun through the glass gives them exactly what they need. Avoid direct afternoon sun (it'll scorch the leaves) and keep them indoors, not outdoors in full sun.

Water: Let the potting mix dry out fully between waterings. Most orchids die from root rot caused by overwatering - people keep the mix constantly moist when these plants actually prefer to dry out before the next drink. Once a week in warmer months, every 10 days in winter is a good starting point.

Temperature: Phalaenopsis love Sydney's mild temperatures. They're happy anywhere between 15-28°C, which covers most Sydney homes year-round.

Humidity: Sydney's natural humidity is usually fine, but if you're running air conditioning constantly, a quick mist once a week helps.

After the blooms fade: Don't panic—this is normal. If the spike is still green and healthy, you can leave it, and new flower buds may grow from nodes on the existing stem within a few months. If the spike starts yellowing, cut it back to the base so the plant can focus energy on growing a fresh new spike. Either way, keep watering and caring for it as usual.
