Sophie & Alex's Bendooley Estate The Stables Wedding

Sophie and Alex married at Bendooley Estate in the Southern Highlands in March 2025, with the ceremony under a chuppah on the lawn and dinner in The Stables. The palette was mostly blue with pops of yellow, and the brief was natural, classy and a little quirky.

The brief

Sophie had seen Natalija and Yuri's wedding at The Stables and loved two things about it: how simple the tables were while still making an impact, and the flowers hanging from the ceiling. So we kept the tables low and loose, put the drama overhead, and ran blue delphinium, blue thistle and hydrangea through everything with yellow tulips, orchids and billy buttons for the pops of colour.

Bouquets and buttonholes

Sophie's bouquet was loose and garden-style in every shade of blue, with yellow tucked through it and a soft blue ribbon. Sophie was happy for us to decide how the bridesmaids' bouquets should look, so we made them smaller, simpler versions of hers to sit against their pale blue satin dresses. The buttonholes picked up the yellow, with a little blue thistle.

Ceremony under the chuppah

The couple hired a timber chuppah from Event Hire Services, and we dressed two opposite posts with big asymmetric clusters of blue and yellow so the canopy stayed open and the view across the lawn stayed clear. If you're planning one, our page on chuppah hire in Sydney covers where to hire the frame and how we style the flowers.

Reception in The Stables

Dinner was on long tables down the length of The Stables. Instead of tall centrepieces we used low, loose arrangements and bud vases of tulips, delphinium and thistle with candles in between, over the couple's own light blue runners and navy napkins. The bridal table had one long, low arrangement in the same mix.

Overhead, we hung arrangements from the venue's black iron chandeliers, built to face the room so guests saw flowers from every seat, and the couple danced under them later in the night.

The details that made it work

  • Blue as the base and yellow in small doses kept everything bright without looking busy.
  • Low tables and hanging flowers: guests could see each other across the table, and the room still felt full of flowers.
  • Two clusters on opposite corners of the chuppah framed the couple from every angle without closing in the canopy.
  • The couple's own runners and napkins did a lot of the work, so the flowers could stay loose and natural.
